The Dance Team South Carolina title event is a one-of-a-kind experience for soloists to represent their school programs while building confidence, celebrating individuality, and connecting with dancers from across the state. This first-ever event will crown our inaugural Miss and Mr. Dance Team South Carolina and name the official Dance Team SC — a select group of standout dancers who will represent our state at a prestigious national title event.

11:30 AM Registration for contestants
12:00 PM Interview (11th/12th grade contestants only) (closed to the public)

1:15 PM Solo divisions 7th-10th grade

COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY
Contestants must be in school grades 6-12 and an active member of their school dance program.
Students enrolled at schools that do not have an official dance program may also participate, but must have permission from their school site administrator or academic counselor to do so.
All solo contestants must register under their school name.
divisions & scoring
Contestants in High School (grades 9-12) will compete against dancers in their own grade.
Contestants in Middle School (grades 6-8) will all compete in one division.
Solo routines at Dance Team SC may be of any competitive dance team genre or combination of styles (i.e. Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical)
12th grade division
Spotlight
Allows dancers opportunity to demonstrate special skills, areas of strength, and movement qualities that might not already be included in their choreographed solo routine. Up to 0:45 in length and scored based on the dancers technique, movement and style.
interview
Senior soloists will be provided an interview question to prepare an answer prior to entering the interview room (closed to public). Dancers are given up to 0:45 to answer the question in front of a friendly panel of judges. Scoring is based on answer content and overall delivery.
Solo Routine
Routine length is 1:30-2:00.
Scoring is based on Routine Content (40%), Technique (30%), and Performance/Showmanship (30%).
12th grade awards
At awards we will announce the top 5* Interview scores, the top 8* Spotlight scores, and the top 10* Solo Routine scores. We will then announce the Miss Dance Team SC top 3* winners and the Mister Dance Team SC top 3* winners, which is a combination of scores from all three categories.
*Numbers may be adjusted higher or lower based on registration numbers.
Dancers will compete a solo routine that is 1:30-2:00 in length.
Scoring is based on Routine Content (40%), Technique (30%), and Performance/Showmanship (30%).
Dancers will receive their scores, along with their placement in comparison to others in their category following the competition. We will announce/award approximately the top 1/4 of each grade level division. Additionally, we may also present special awards to Top solo routines by dance genre: Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical.
11th grade, 10th grade, 9th grade, and middle school divisions
duo/trio divisions
Dancers will compete a dance routine that is 1:30-2:00 in length. Scoring is based on Technique (30%), Routine Content and Execution (40%), and Performance (30%). Dancers will receive their scores, along with their placement in comparison to others in their category following the competition.
We will announce/award approximately the top 1/4 of each division. Dancers in a Duet/Trio do not all need to attend the same school but all need to be member's of their high school's dance team and must have permission from their Coach to compete.
Music: All music for routines must be edited to 1:30-2:00 in length. Assure that lyrics are suitable for a middle and high school dance competition. Dancers will submit music electronically two weeks prior to the event.
Props: The use of small props is allowed. Please choose props based on the ability for quick set-up and take down and minimal cleanup.
Costume: The contestants costume is left up to the discretion of the dancer and coach. The uniform must be appropriate for middle and high school age performers. Shoes are optional, you may have bare feet.
Choreography: Choreography can be done by a choreographer or the dancer may choose to create on their own. Movements must be appropriate for middle and high school age performers.
General guidelines
Each high school contestant is eligible for selection to Team South Carolina, announced at the conclusion of the awards ceremony. Selected dancers will be invited to compete their solo at a national title event during the same school year.
Team SC will also compete 1-2 team routines as a team comprised of dancers from across the state, pending interest and availability.
